THE ADVENTURE BEGINS HERE
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO PREPARE YOUR SHELTER FOR THE GREATEST ADVENTURE!
Congratulations!
Your shelter has been selected as a partner for The Greatest Adventure!
WE ARE SO EXCITED TO MEET YOU!
We can’t thank you enough for opening your shelter doors and hearts to our mission.
Our team’s goal, with the help of our sponsors, as well as your staff and volunteers, is to take a special dog out of their cage and into the world for one adventure-filled day, where we will capture the unique magic of their spirt and personality. We’ll produce stunning, eye-catching photos and video to give him that little extra push towards finding their forever home.
In this Portal, you’ll find everything you need to prepare for The Greatest Adventure Team’s visit to your shelter.
THE CONTRACT
The main contact you indicated on your application should have an email in their inbox with a link to your TGA Contract.
We like to keep things pretty easy-going over here at The Greatest Adventure. However, a contract is needed for model and property releases for any videography and photography done by our team.
WHAT TO EXPECT
TIMELINE OF EVENTS FOR YOUR SHELTER
One week before your shelter visit, our Shelter Coordinator, Kristy Trick, will contact you to confirm the onsite arrival date with your team and provide you with your Shelter Preparation Kit.
She will confirm that your contract is in place and will coordinate a time for a 1:1 call with your team to review any questions you have before the TGA Team arrives at your shelter.
You will also want to begin making staff/volunteer arrangements while TGA is taking place - especially if key shelter personnel are acting as the ambassador for the shelter and guardian of the chosen shelter dog.
Your shelter should secure a location for the educational photography workshop, if there is not space on-premise.
Contact your local media outlets to notify them of your shelter being chosen by TGA and ask if they would like to come onsite for an interview! This is a wonderful “feel good” story. The world needs more dog-hair covered magic right now!
1 WEEK BEFORE YOUR SHELTER VISIT
3 DAYS BEFORE YOUR SHELTER VISIT
Three days before your shelter visit, our Shelter Coordinator, Kristy Trick, will touch base again with your team to ensure preparations are going smoothly.
Prepare your staff/volunteers with the Shelter Guide sent in your Shelter Preparation Kit.
1 DAY BEFORE YOUR SHELTER VISIT
One day before your shelter visit, our Shelter Coordinator, Kristy Trick, will be in contact to confirm the arrival date and time with your team.
DAY OF YOUR SHELTER VISIT
The day has arrived! The TGA Team will arrive at your shelter at the coordinated time. When the team arrives, please have someone greet them and bring them into the shelter for formal introductions off-camera. The TGA Team will meet with your lead Contact, introduce themselves to the staff/volunteers and review the game plan for the following day(s).
Filming for TGA YouTube Series will begin after these introductions, to ensure everyone is prepared.
DURING YOUR SHELTER VISIT
Your full Greatest Adventure Experience will take place over the course of four separate days!
Day 1 will be a short day (3 hours) of introductions and hellos at the shelter, including some filming around the shelter grounds and an opportunity for Kaylee and her team to meet and choose the official Greatest Adventure dog with the help of your staff and volunteers!
Days 2+3 are the official Adventure days! Day 2 will be a longer day, with up to a 90 min drive each way to an epic location, and then filming and photographing for a period of 4 hours. (don’t worry, there will be lots of breaks throughout for both human and dog!)
Day 4 will be the Workshop Day! Presented by Canon and taught by Kaylee Greer, your volunteers and staff will be trained on the unique art of creating compelling shelter photography that will help directly impact and influence increased adoption rates.
AFTER YOUR SHELTER VISIT
Queue the spotlight! Approximately one month after your shelter visit, the YouTube episode will be released! The video will feature your shelter and the amazing dog chosen for The Greatest Adventure.
This is a fantastic opportunity to follow-up with your local media outlets to draw attention to your shelter’s story.
You can also expect the images from TGA to be shared with your shelter 72 hours after your shelter visit so you can start to promote your special Greatest Adventure dog with their special new photos!
Follow-up questions about your TGA visit should be directed to Kristy Trick at kristy@dogbreathfoundation.org.
HOW TO PREPARE
A list of things to keep in mind while you prepare for our team to arrive.
Sign the Contract. The main contact you indicated on your application should have an email in their inbox with a link to your TGA Contract. We like to keep things pretty easy-going over here at The Greatest Adventure. However, a contract is needed for model and property releases for any videography and photography done by our team. Our generous sponsors have also mandated that contracts be in place for our engagement.
Prepare Your Staff/Volunteers.
The On-Adventure Guardian: TGA focuses on taking a chosen shelter dog out of his cage and into the world on a big adventure. Adventure days could include activities like hiking, swimming, canoeing, eating ice cream, etc. We anticipate that a given shelter volunteer or staff member who will accompany us as a guardian for the dog will be with us for up to 2 full days on-location. Driving time could be up to 90 mins each way, each day. All meals for 1 shelter staff or volunteer who will accompany the dog during Greatest Adventure filming days will be covered as part of the project budget.
Appropriate Staffing: Be prepared to staff your shelter appropriately while TGA is onsite for the introduction, during the adventure day(s) and during the workshop, especially if key personnel are leaving the shelter to act as the On-Adventure Guardian of the chosen dog.
The Workshop: Your shelter volunteers and staff will receive an immersive educational photography workshop presented by multi-international award-winning professional dog photographer Kaylee Greer, covering everything you could ever want to know about capturing incredible photos of shelter dogs. Please make sure that everyone you want included in this training is present IN PERSON for this once-in-a-lifetime onsite workshop.
Workshop Educational Space: Please secure a space at your shelter or in your community for the educational photography workshop. Thanks to our incredibly generous sponsor Canon, we will donate a professional camera and lens kit to your shelter so that you can continue to impact the lives of shelter dogs through the power of photography.
We estimate 10-15 people at your workshop. This space could be at your shelter or somewhere nearby within your community. Please keep in mind there must be enough room to accommodate chairs for all participants, a projector cart, a large projection screen (approximately 90" wide), and access to 1-2 electrical outlets.Contact Your Local News Outlets: Being selected as a featured shelter for The Greatest Adventure is a perfect opportunity to contact your local news outlets! Don’t have a PR person in house? No problem! Kristy will share our example Press Release with your shelter. Just copy, paste, and customize it with your shelter’s information!
Pet Food Brands and Containers: One of our generous sponsors is Freshpet, who will be donating food to both the adoptable dog and to your shelter! As a part of their sponsorship, we require that no other pet food brands be on camera while we film. There is no need or worry to remove any other pet food branding or signage from your shelter premises, but please do point out where that branding might appear to our video crew upon arrival, so that we can creatively avoid featuring any competitors on film. :) We appreciate your help!

Possibly! Everyone who is at the shelter on the days we are onsite should be aware that a small production and video crew will be actively filming. We will be sure to get releases from anyone who is a featured person in the documentary series, but there's a chance that other shelter staff or volunteers could have a brief cameo in the background.

The Greatest Adventure focuses on taking a chosen shelter dog out of his cage and into the world on a big adventure. Adventure days could include activities like hiking, swimming, canoeing, eating ice cream, etc. Please wear appropriate footwear and apparel for your shelter dog's adventure. The Greatest Adventure Team will be coordinating with you to ensure you are properly informed of what activities they will be doing over the course of the adventure.
To ensure that everyone looks their best on camera, we have a few recommendations of what NOT to wear.
Do not wear low-cut shirts or low-rise jeans/shorts. Remember that you will be working with dogs and actively moving around.
Strong patterns, such as stripes and checkers, don't translate well in video. Please also stay away from wearing any logos other than your Shelter's logo.
Bright neon-colored clothing should also be avoided.

You can expect the educational workshop to take approximately 2 hours. There will be an opportunity for a 30 minute Q+A or Book Signing session with Kaylee after the workshop portion concludes.

Mother Nature definitely has a mind of her own! The Greatest Adventure sessions are rain or shine events. However, we have a little bit of flexibility for your shelter's Adventure. If the weather doesn't cooperate for either one of our flex dates, we will find an activity that we can do that the weather will permit.
